About Our Founder

My name is Alicia Findlay-Joseph, the Founder of Haribibi Education.

"Learn your history to be great!" is a motto, which Haribibi believes whole heartedly, and that is why I have started an online education platform. The platform includes learning about black history and the well-being of the young black mind through mindfulness, as well as focusing on maths and reading.

I have had over 20 years experience in teaching both in Jamaica (where I was born and grew up), in the UK (where I currently reside) as well as in Gran Canarias. I am hard working, dedicated, a woman of integrity and inspirational, as said by the many children and parents I have taught over the years.

I also believe in work/life balance and so ensure I make time to do the things that make me happy in life, which are singing, dancing (in my living room), cooking and reading. Life in teaching has been filled with ups and downs but one thing is certain, I have a passion for inspiring young people and helping them on their journey to be their best selves.

I come from a family of teachers, so it is in my blood. I knew very early on, that I wanted to be a teacher and I haven’t regretted it since. As mentioned above, I was born in the beautiful island of Jamaica. There, I studied at the infamous University of the West Indies, where I did a Spanish Major and an Education Minor. After migrating to the UK, I completed a PGCE (post graduate in Education) at the Goldsmiths University London.

Why have I decided to start an online company dedicated to uplifting Black children?

Well, for far too long other people have been telling our history (by that I mean is making it up as they go along!), and it’s time for us to know and tell our own history. It’s time for young people to know the truth so that they can flourish, but also just as important so that they can start sharing our real history with everyone including their family and their children to come.

In my years of teaching, I’ve taught in many year groups, most of them in the primary curriculum, but a few at  secondary as well. As a result of my experience, I use various teaching methodology within each session to ensure that all my students learn and retain key information. So your children are in very capable hands. I look forward to forging some fantastic relationships and inspiring young minds to find out more about themselves.
